GERALDINE BOARDWALK
Recreation Construction Ltd completed the Geraldine Boardwalk Project for Timaru District Council, providing a safer and more accessible pathway along Waihi Terrace, Geraldine. The 60-meter-long boardwalk was designed to replace a steep section of the original trail, ensuring improved accessibility for all pedestrians, including those with mobility challenges. The project was successfully completed in February 2025, meeting the client's goal of creating an inclusive and durable public asset.
A key challenge of the project was addressing the steep gradient of the existing trail. To overcome this, we carefully designed and installed the boardwalk at a more gradual incline, allowing for easier and safer passage. Foundation piles were precisely positioned to provide a strong base, and prefabrication of key components helped streamline the installation process.
A standout feature of the boardwalk is the timber infill handrail, which enhances safety while maintaining a natural aesthetic that blends with the surrounding environment. The deck and handrail were crafted using high-quality materials to ensure longevity, with careful attention to detail during installation to meet both structural and accessibility requirements.
This project reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure that improves community access and enjoyment while preserving the natural landscape.
