JOSH SOPER
Director | Recreation Construction Ltd
With 18 years of experience in the building and construction industry, Josh Soper brings practical know-how and a down-to-earth approach to every project. Early in his career, he cut his teeth building dairy sheds, pole sheds, and other rural infrastructure across Canterbury, giving him a solid grounding in the kind of work that keeps farms running.
These days, Josh leads the team at Recreation Construction, overseeing farm builds, civil works, bridges, and public infrastructure projects across North Otago and surrounding areas. Having moved off the tools and into a leadership role, he now focuses on planning, managing, and making sure projects are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
Originally from Southland and raised in Canterbury, Josh now lives in North Otago with his wife and two kids. He enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it’s fishing, hunting, or diving — and when he’s not out on a job, he’s usually working on their property. He and his wife are steadily developing it into a productive berry farm, bringing the same hands-on, practical approach to the land as he does to construction.
FERGUS WATT

Fergus Watt grew up in Kurow, where he developed a strong work ethic and practical skills working on his family orchard. After finishing school, he completed a carpentry apprenticeship with Recreation Construction, gaining hands-on experience in outdoor construction. In 2021, he and Josh Soper took over the company, continuing its legacy of high-quality craftsmanship in remote and challenging environments.
Fergus works closely with the team to ensure projects are completed efficiently while maintaining the highest standards. His deep understanding of complex construction environments allows him to tackle challenges head-on, finding innovative solutions in the field.
For Fergus, one of the biggest perks of the job is working in incredible outdoor locations. In his spare time, he enjoys climbing, diving, hunting, and just about anything that keeps him outside.
