HOLLYFORD WALKING TRACK

Location: Hollyford Walking Track Fiordland National Park
Project completed 2022
Contracted by Department of Conservation

We were tasked with the demolition and removal of the existing gantry and reconstruction of a new one in its place.

This was completed over 2 separate trips. The team set up our caravan in the Hollyford airstrip and walked to and from site each morning. The first trip was to dismantle sections of the old structure where the new anchors where to be set in to the rock, we left as much of the existing structure in place as we could to give us safe access and to reduce the cost/need for scaffolding. On the second trip to site and after the grout had set we returned to site and constructed the new gantry.

To speed up and reduce the time spent on site, we pre-cut as many of the components as possible, this helps prevent excess timber being flown in and out and minimises the amount of wastage on site.

All plant and equipment were flown to and from site and to help keep costs down we made sure we flew out as much of the old structure and any equipment/plant out on back loads.

All work was completed by Recreation Construction 2021 staff, with
Southernlakes Helicopters did all our flying operations.
